Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh has assured parents that his diocese will not adopt the educational standards of the “Common Core” program.

The National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) has strongly supported the use of the Common Core program, despite concerns that the federal government’s standards could conflict with the Catholic identity of parochial schools. In his message to Pittsburgh parents, Bishop Zubik observed that the NCEA “is not a governing body for Catholic schools.” He assured them: “Our Catholic faith guides the selection of all curricula, goals, textbooks, and other resources.
